Google’s “Big Daddy” Upgrade

As many of you are familiar with, there have been recent changes to Google’s algorithm that has adversely affected your campaigns CPC and even deactivated adgroups for no apparent reason…

Well, the reason is Google’s upgrade to their ranking algorithm and the launching of their brand new data center (named Big Daddy). The new data center will allow their ranking algorithms to work more effeciently, index several more sites and basically creating more relevant search results. Not all changes were positive and initially impacted many advertisers.

Paid search listing were effected with deactivated ad groups and drastic increases ot their minimum CPC. These are in direct correlation with the Quality Score component of Adwords, and in particular website relevance to keywords. Google’s reason for implementing these changes was to increase the quality of the search for their end users.

Obviously, the more relevant your webpage is to the keywords, the higher the quality score. One thing that is very interested about the change, is the Google gives multiple page sites the upper hand, rather than single page landing pages.

Does this mean that you have to create a whole website for every product you promote…absolutely not. But you should make sure that your landing page (whether it is single or not) is relevant to your keywords, or your Quality Score will be lower and your minimum CPC will rise.

If the keywords are relevant to the content on your pages then you should be fine. If not, adjust them accordingly or be prepared to pay a higher price.
